Are online casinos legal in Argentina? The law province by province in 2026

The short answer

Online casino gambling is legal in Argentina when the operator holds a licence from your province. There is no national law or national licence: gambling is a provincial matter, and each province decides whether to regulate online gambling, which body supervises it and which operators it authorises. As of 22 September 2026, the Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA, the Buenos Aires City lottery regulator) and the Provincia de Buenos Aires (IPLyC, the provincial lottery and casino institute) have the largest operating markets, six other provinces have authorised operators and at least eight more have passed a law but have no operator taking bets. A site without a provincial licence is not authorised, even if it holds a Curaçao or Malta licence and even if it lets you play.

How the system works: provinces, regulators and licences

In Argentina, games of chance are a power not delegated to the national government: each province (and the Ciudad de Buenos Aires) regulates them on its own. For online casinos that has produced an uneven map:

The difference between "law passed" and "operating market" is the most important point in this guide. A province with a law on paper is not an open market and has no authorised operators: any casino that accepts players from that province is operating, for those players, without a provincial licence. How to tell whether a casino is licensed in your province

1. Look at the domain. Authorised operators use .bet.ar (or a .com.ar domain in the case of some casinos with a land-based venue, such as Casino Buenos Aires Online [VERIFICAR]).

3. Check that registration asks for your DNI and address. Sites without a licence often skip that step.

An operator licensed in Buenos Aires is not authorised in your province

This is the most common mistake. Betano or Betsson hold licences from LOTBA and the IPLyC; that authorises them for residents of the Ciudad and the Provincia de Buenos Aires. Betsson adds Córdoba, and Codere is licensed in the Ciudad and in Mendoza, not in the Provincia de Buenos Aires. For a player in Santa Fe, Salta or Misiones, those same operators are "without a provincial licence", and registration should reject that player based on the address on their DNI. Advertising, bonuses and player protection

• Advertising: Resolución 271/2026 (Ministerio de Economía, 6 August 2026) allows the warning messages required by the provinces or by CABA to satisfy the national requirement if they meet the standards for visibility, placement, duration and size, and lets provincial regulators join the national regime. In practice: if you deposit ARS 10,000 at a licensed operator, slightly less is likely to be credited, and a win in the Provincia de Buenos Aires arrives with 2% deducted. This is not a "hidden cost" of the casino but of the legal market. The tax guide keeps every figure with its date and source.

What about casinos without a provincial licence

Stake, 1win, 1xBet, Melbet and others accept Argentine players with Curaçao or similar licences. They are not authorised by any provincial regulator. What you need to know:
